The story - in music - of two British musicians living together in the US in a famous party house.
In 1940, Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears lived in a large and unusual brownstone in Brooklyn. Called the February House because of the many February birthdays of its residents, this long-since-demolished haven became a gathering place for composers, literary lights and a very famous stripper. With two virtuoso wind players as guests, the acclaimed Australian piano duo Anna Grinberg & Liam Viney will trace some of the artistic creativity and conversations that happened at 7 Middagh Street.
Benjamin Britten - Introduction and Rondo alla burlesca, for 2 pianos (1940)
Virgil Thomson - Persistently Pastoral: A Portrait of Aaron Copland for piano (1942)
Aaron Copland - Danzon Cubano arr. 2 pianos (1944)
Thomson - Souvenir: A Portrait of Paul Bowles (1935)
Paul Bowles - Sonata for Oboe and Clarinet (1931)
Colin McPhee - Balinese Ceremonial Music for 2 pianos (1940)
Britten - Overture: Paul Bunyan piano four hands (1941)
Britten - Six Metamorphoses after Ovid for solo oboe (1951)
Britten/ McPhee - Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge arr. for 2 pianos (1939)
